About Melissa Damacio Lopez

My background as a first generation Latina who comes from a low-income background, strengthens my commitment to serving underserved communities and ensuring language access for all in my future profession as a Speech Language Pathologist. I am most interested in the medical-aspect of Speech-Language Pathology and I am currently seeking opportunities to shadow or volunteer in the pediatric acute care setting. Aside from my love for the Speech-Pathology field, I am passionate about my cultural identity and immersed myself into organizations at UCSB that would nurture this aspect of my identity. I was involved in various multicultural orgs such as Hermanas Unidas, Comunidad Latinx Graduación, and Corazon de Vida. As President of CDV, I aimed to foster an inclusive environment to support orphaned and abandoned children in Baja California. Through on-campus events, fundraisers, social networking events, and community service, we aimed to empower the UCSB community to uplift the children in Mexico. I hope to continue volunteering my time to the organization through my future profession.
