About Melissa Lan

Melissa Lan is a Registered Pharmacist with a Lean Healthcare Green Belt and a Master of Science in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety from the University of Toronto. As a clinician, she has delivered person-centred care in both acute inpatient and ambulatory care settings at University Health Network (UHN). Currently, Melissa serves as a Patient Safety & Quality Improvement Specialist, where she supports advancing patient safety and quality improvement through a high-reliability approach across UHN. She actively supports multiple programs to review potential critical patient incidents, has implemented a human factors framework to enhance the quality of recommendations developed during critical incident reviews, and is exploring how Lean methods and artificial intelligence can improve the incident review process. Additionally, Melissa is an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, where she introduces graduate students to quality improvement methods.
