About Melissa Millien

Money makes the world go round, and growing up in a low-income household, I’ve always been attracted to the world of personal finance. My mother is a hard-working woman, and I’ve seen her always pay her bills on time only to have nothing left at the end of the month. This ignited my passion for learning about managing wealth building and choosing finance as my college major. I’m excited to be developing the communication and analytical skills that will allow me to support others in devising strategic financial plans. I’ve always loved helping people and I have the opportunity to do that in my current position as a Teaching Assistant for my Investments class. My favorite aspect of this role is the mentoring during weekly office hours. It is a joy to be able to clear up their confusion and alleviate worry about assignments and exams as I was once in their shoes. My experience outside of Isenberg has increased my capacity to work with raw data and ensure strategic organization for end users as well as advance my skills interacting with a diverse range of individuals while supporting special projects engaging with senior managers. In my role with the Urban Farming Institute, I also leverage my strong language skills as an interpreter for Haitian-American customers.
