About Melissa Nelson

Helping people has been at the heart of my professional career since day 1. Now that I've moved into the nonprofit sector, I feel like my drive to be helpful really has an opportunity to shine.As the Director of Advancement for Friends of the Blue Hills, I have a hand in all sorts of projects and initiatives that are intended to move the organization's mission forward. This means increasing operational efficiency, building long-lasting relationships with external stakeholders and supporters, coordinating engaging community events, as well as crafting marcom outreach that inspires people to take action today to protect the Blue Hills specifically and green space more generally. As a strong advocate for health and wellness (as evidenced by more than 20 years in patient education/engagement and healthcare marcom), what better way to walk the walk? Being part of an organization with a singular focus on preserving, protecting, and promoting a part of Greater Boston that is so integral to my own health and well-being means that going to work feels more like self-care. How many people can say their job is a labor of love? I'm so happy I can say I do.
