About Melissa Orr

As a believer in learning through shared experiences and from reflecting on them with others, I embrace a philosophy that learning from and teaching peers strengthens student learning. Taking learning outside of traditional classroom walls and providing authentic spaces for students to take in the content creates more impactful learning opportunities between the student and the content. My experience as a high school and youth coach helped me find value in building trusting relationships with students outside of the classroom setting. Working with students as a club advisor has allowed me to work with students to help them achieve goals set by them. My passion has driven me to help create a social emotional learning strategy for our school with common language amongst staff, students, and parents. Additionally, leading a community mentorship initiative for my school has afforded students with the opportunity to foster meaningful professional opportunities and build their professional network. Leading international travel experiences promoting learning and leadership has been the most impactful experience of my teaching career.
