About Melissa Villy

I'm a Youth Services Librarian with 8 years of experience in a small community library. I have planned and managed programming for all ages and the summer reading program for 7 years. I am highly creative with skills in crochet, costume design, hand sewing, scrapbooking, and more. I also functioned as an assistant manager and have experience with scheduling, building maintenance, and payroll and leave submissions. In late 2019 I began work on my Disability and Chronic Illness Representation in Fiction project which has been presented via poster session at American Library Association and a Lightening Round at the Florida Library Association in 2021. A full webinar can be viewed on the Panhandle Library Association Network website. I hope to present it in the future for the Public Library Association or Young Adult Library Services Association. Services to the disabled and consumer health information are important interests to me. Health Literacy improves the overall health and quality of life for the whole community. Disabled community members are often under served and overlooked, but by making our programs accessible or bringing the programs to them through outreach we can make sure they too are included. Both are types of programming I hope to bring to my next library job.
