About Melissa Wroe

Since admission I have worked solely in insurance litigation. I specialise in casualty claims ranging from complex multi-defendant litigation, to minor “trip and fall” incidents. My expertise also covers professional indemnity, health law, dust diseases and property claims, coverage disputes and risk management. I have had the benefit of working from “both sides of the bench”, having completed my practical legal training as an Associate at the State Administrative Tribunal. This experience has given me considerable insight into the processes and procedures of Courts and Tribunals which has in turn assisted me in practice. I appear regularly before the District Court and Supreme Court on matters including for pre-trial conferences, mediations, directions hearings, special appointments and interlocutory applications. I have a passion for human rights and access to justice. I formed HBA Legal’s Pro Bono and Social Impact Practice and Committee. I previously sat on the committee for the Australian Insurance Law Association and Australian Lawyers for Human Rights. I was on the Risk Management Institution of Australasia committee for three years.
