Meredith Belany is a graduate of the University of California, Davis and has held a career in education for over 20 years. She received her teaching credential from California State University, East Bay in conjunction with the West Contra Costa Intern Program. She has happily taught in the inner-city of the West Contra Costa School District for ten years and enjoys using hands-on activities to enrich her students’ lives, and working with students’ families to create an atmosphere of success. Her teaching philosophy is that all students have the capacity to learn, and Ms. Belany works hard to ensure that her students work to their full potential. As an international relations major, Miss Belany developed a passion for history, travel, studying languages, and learning about people and cultures. She has been fortunate to travel to a few countries in Asia, South America, Europe, and North America. From 2004-2005 Miss Belany had the opportunity to teach in a rural high school in Shirakawa, Japan through the JET Program. During this year abroad Ms. Belany developed her teaching skills, earned a TEFL certificate, created engaging oral language lessons, and studied Japanese in order to best work with her students and colleagues. Ms. Belany was a performing member of the Ensambles Ballet Folklorico de San Francisco, and danced with the company for seven years. Ms. Belany served as secretary for the group for 6 years, and as secretary on the Ensambles Board of Directors from 2012-2016 attending to duties including note-taking, arranging and negotiating performances, maintaining the Ensembles web page, and writing grants. Ms. Belany seeks a teaching position in a school or arts based organization with strong collaboration amongst colleagues, and where she will continue to build her skills as an educator. Above all, Ms. Belany’s desire is to impart knowledge to her youth charges so that they will become successful adults.
