Digging deeper and looking closer can show us the importance of their tiny-but-mighty roles.Climate science can seem very overwhelming. Headlines and politics can create a detachment between humans and the natural world.We can forget how powerful Mother Earth is, however, being immersed in nature can change our perspective. Macro-photography grounds and pushes me to appreciate the interconnectedness within our natural world and the art that Earth's ecosystems are always regenerating. As a scientist, I’m able to understand and appreciate the complex ecology and symbiotic relationships between specimens that are commonly ignored. I can intertwine my detail-oriented vision with my passion for research and love of the Earth to convey stories and important messages, while simultaneously learning and gaining new perspectives.I would like to invite you to participate as a citizen scientist! •Grab your camera and get outside.•Push yourself to get up-close and personal with the details of the surrounding ecosystem. Closely observed live or decaying tree trunks, branches, roots, and the forest floor-On live tree trunks, you may observe various, beautiful species of moss, lichen, and shelf fungi-On fallen trees and branches, you might find biodiverse slime-molds, mosses, lichen and fungi-On the forest floor, be conscious of every step you take, as this ecosystem is a habitat for thousands of different living species.•Now it's time to identify your photographed specimens!
