Background
About Meredith Purcell
I have a strong background in wildlife biology, with a focus on big game and migratory birds, as well as environmental monitoring and research. I have a diverse technical skillset that includes aerial surveys for big game, passive surveying of various wildlife, live capture and collaring of ungulates and coyotes, as well as the full spectrum of wetland monitoring techniques- UAV surveys using LiDAR, multispectral, and thermal payloads, wetland delineation, wetland functional assessments, and peat and permafrost coring. This includes the design, execution, analysis, reporting, and outreach and stewardship with youth, collaborators, and Indigenous communities. My current role focuses heavily on using research to inform policy. With the goal to inform conservation planning, my research focuses on documenting biodiversity, ecosystem significance, carbon sequestration, and overall function of wetlands in candidate protected and conserved areas in central and southern Labrador.
