About Meredith Rickel

I am very interested in the intersection of environmental science and policy, and how we can ensure that better policies are being made with the science that is available. I am also very passionate about environmental crime issues, and studying how we can use international policy to help stop much of the environmental illegality that occurs worldwide. I have a specific interest in IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) Fishing, and ocean-related environmental crimes. I grew up with a deep appreciation and love for the environment and have made it my life goal to give back to the environment in any way I can. My first love has always been the ocean, in fact, I can’t remember a time in my childhood when I didn’t want to have an ocean-related career. This inspired me to pursue a degree in Marine Science for my undergraduate studies and Environmental Policy for my Masters Degree. I am very task-orientated and disciplined, so I can always devise a plan to get things done (and stick to it). I am also aware of the ever-changing environmental industry, and thus, I can easily switch gears and replan things in tight situations. I can also handle delegating situations and have studied leadership techniques to help lead.
