About Meredith Webb

I am a senior public lawyer with significant management and leadership experience. I lead the public law team at Auckland Council and have particular expertise in public and administrative law. After beginning my career at Russell McVeagh, I took a position on the local government public law team at Simpson Grierson specialising in local government funding and decision-making. I then spent seven years at the Government Legal Department in the UK where I was instructed by government clients in high profile and complex judicial reviews and statutory appeals and managed a team of 10 lawyers. I have group litigation experience having acted for the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office in a long running and multifaceted group litigation case involving over claimants. In New Zealand I have experience advising numerous local government clients. I have also acted for major infrastructure and commercial clients in judicial review and other proceedings. In July 2024 I was seconded to the role of Chief Risk and Assurance Officer for a period of six months. In that role I led a department with responsibility for Auckland Council's risk, integrity, audit and insurance functions.
