About Merisa Smith

For most of my life, I have been a storyteller. In elementary school, I took the main stage for our class’s production of “Reader Pan.” Of course, not every narrator dresses in green sequins from head to toe, but I had to be the center of attention at 8 years old. In middle school, I had a strong passion for singing and dancing in my church and school choir. In high school, I marched onto the field with my flags in hand. In college, I continued to march and dance with different clubs on campus, finding as many opportunities as possible to be able to tell a story. I have transitioned into designing shows and coaching other students to be storytellers. No matter the medium, I have always wanted to share a story with anyone that I could in every situation. As I continue to share stories with those around me, I have a deeper appreciation for hearing others’ stories. I am continuously surrounded by so many individuals that have a story as unique as them. There is so much you can learn in a five-minute bus ride or wait in line for coffee. As professional storytellers, it is our job to take the time and learn any and everything that we can about the people and world around us.
