About Meryl Blinder

Drawing and color govern all my professional undertakings. I’ll mention two highlights: For a decade in the 1990s, I worked closely with the late architect Michael Graves, implementing his color ideas and drawing style. He became my greatest mentor and teacher when it came to color and line, as I was tasked with creating color renderings as he would do them himself. He taught me about color science, surface treatment, pattern, texture, and how color defines space. Graves also commissioned me to create and implement extensive wall coverings of hand-drawn scenes: Two of these are at The Disney Dolphin and Swan hotels. I continue to do architectural installations for private clients that feature color and geometry. I was also a courtroom artist. Doing drawings of the proceedings for the evening news, I documented events for TV news stations in Connecticut and New York. This required and built a quick response to gesture, a sensitivity to line quality, and sharp editing skills. Very few lines can tell a story. I maintain a vigorous studio practice in Boston. Recently I've done a series of installations as memorials. I’m in my 16th year as adjunct professor teaching color and drawing at Wentworth Institute’s Architecture School in Boston.
