Background
About Mia Parkes
I am currently a Research Assistant, Postgraduate Teaching Assistant, and doctoral researcher in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Birmingham. My research focusses on the experience and testimony of incarcerated women in the 20th and 21st centuries, analysing literature, film, and other forms of testimony with a particular focus on memories of political violence and women’s resistance. Additionally, since 2020, I have worked on the research project “Urban Terrorism in Europe”, conducting research on terrorism, political violence, and memorialisation in the UK, France, Spain, and Germany in the 21st century.
