About Micaela Sartoretti

As a Molecular Neuroscientist at The Francis Crick Institute and Communications Leader for the Crick Science Entrepreneur Network (CSEN), I thrive at the intersection of cutting-edge science and strategic collaboration 🤝. I’m passionate about driving scientific innovation that translates into real-world impact.My journey began with a PhD in Developmental Biology in Argentina, followed by over five years of postdoctoral research in the UK, working with a range of models—from mice to human tissue. At the Crick, I’m part of a consortium of five leading London-based laboratories working to understand the molecular basis of cognitive problems in Down syndrome. My project uses single-nucleus RNA sequencing 🧬 to uncover potential therapeutic targets in the hippocampus 🧠, combining deep molecular biology with translational goals.My role at the CSEN has broadened my perspective on science beyond the bench. I connect regularly with a wide network of scientist interested in entrepreneurship through in-person interactions, social media, events, and internal and external communications —translating complex concepts for diverse audiences and fuelling my interest in entrepreneurship and innovation. I’ve helped organise events with industry leaders and I’m actively building skills in commercialisation, intellectual property, and biotech strategy through programmes such as Core Business Skills for Biologists (Royal Society), PULSE, Newton Foundations, and the Crick Innovation Challenge.With a strong background in analysing complex biological data and a growing interest in strategic partnerships, I’m committed to connecting science with opportunity—and turning discoveries into meaningful outcomes for patients and society 🧩.I believe in genuine human connection — so if you're a junior professional curious about my path, or passionate about science, innovation, and collaboration, please feel free to get in touch.
