About Michael Abdelmasseh

As a Senior Colorectal Surgery Research Fellow at AdventHealth Central Florida, I lead and contribute to clinical and translational research aimed at improving surgical outcomes, advancing minimally invasive techniques, and optimizing patient recovery in colorectal surgery. I am passionate about combining clinical insight with data-driven innovation to create tangible improvements in patient care and health systems. Alongside my fellowship, I serve as a Senior Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Collaborator with the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), University of Washington, where I contribute to global health analytics and disease modeling that inform policy and shape health priorities worldwide. Previously, as a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, I directed and supported diverse research projects across surgery, oncology, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity—building a strong foundation in research leadership, data interpretation, and multi-institutional collaboration. I hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Alexandria University, a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Marshall University with a concentration in Research, Evaluation, and Policy, and a Certificate in Clinical Trials from Harvard Medical School. I am deeply motivated by the opportunity to bridge clinical excellence, research, and innovation—and to collaborate with teams dedicated to improving surgical practice and advancing global health equity. My goal is to translate research into meaningful impact that enhances outcomes for patients, institutions, and communities worldwide.
