About Michael Alebich

I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and attended the local schools of Benedictine University and the Chicago College of Osteopahtic Medicine. I completed my internal medicine - primary care residency at Stroger Hosital and Rush University Medical Center.After completing residency, I served for a year as chief medical resident at Stroger. I then joined the division of hospital medicine in the role of hospitalist and bedside procedure attending. My current academic appointments include associate professor of medicine at both Rush College of Medicine and Chicago Medical School.My current clinical responsibilities include inpatient service as a teaching attending for hospitalized patients and bedside procedure attending performing ultrasound guided paracentesis, thoracentesis, central lines and lumbar punctures. My administrative roles include Co-Chair of the Clinical Documentation Improvement Committee, Associate Designated Institutional Official (DIO), Co-Director of Medical Student Programs (site director for Rush, Rosalind-Franklin and Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine) and core faculty for the internal medicine residency program at Stroger. Personally, I strongly believe that health care is a basic human right, and care should be available to every person regardless of their ability to pay. I serve the patients of Cook County through my work at Stroger Hospital because it is an institution that embodies this ideal and has done so since it's inception.
