About Michael Attard

Currently based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Michael Attard has extensive international experience working collaboratively within academia and the private sector. Following his post-doctoral work in astrophysics, Michael has worked as a Software Engineer and Data Scientist in the private sector. His present role is as a Senior Data Scientist at Transaction Monitoring Netherlands (TMNL), located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Michael's primary interests focus on the application of algorithms and data analysis techniques to describe and explain challenging problems. Exposure to this line of work began with his doctorate thesis, which involved the modelling of hardware metrology performance in an experimental dual-array infrared polarimeter. The theme of this work has carried on to the present day, where Michael currently works within a team using machine learning algorithms, trained on financial transaction data, to build Anti-Money Laundering (AML) applications at TMNL.
