About Michael Barnes

I have been in the legal field specializing in human resources, employment and labor law and Title IX for over 15 years and have been with colleges and universities since 2013. As an attorney, there are times when you must find ways to engage other industries and form an outlet to give back, revive yourself, and find fulfillment. I am an attorney who found fulfillment in helping others rise to the next stage in their careers and complete their education. I have taught Legal Thinking, Business Law, Legislative Oversight Race and the Law, Sports and Inequality, Cyberlaw, Criminal Justice, Data Analytics, and Statistics. As an experienced instructor, I believe higher education plays a critical role in the future of our economy and across all industries; however, having the experience of being an adult student, I also understand the complexities of adult education and the dynamic needs of the adult learner and I am here to help. There is a critical need for post-traditional students to complete their degree, up-skill, and re-skill, and to find their way in the post-covid environment. I have extensive experience in Title IX compliance, regulation, and have worked to develop initiatives, deliver education and training, and coordinate awareness of sexual misconduct prevention, resources, and response efforts across institutions and have served as a consultant relevant to Title IX and compliance. Title IX can be confusing and difficult for universities to navigate, so I have spent significant time supporting and guiding institutions to ensure compliance, prevent misconduct, and implement strategic efforts.
