About Michael Berger

As the Secretary General / CEO of PEFC International, I lead a global non-profit organization that promotes sustainable forest management and certification. I have over 5 years of experience in managing the operations, technical, and strategic aspects of PEFC, as well as engaging with diverse stakeholders and partners across the forestry sector and beyond. I hold a PhD in Forestry Economics from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, and a degree in Economics from University of Augsburg.My mission is to transform PEFC into an innovative and impactful sustainability driver, with a strong team spirit and a focus on empowering people and communities. I leverage my expertise in forestry economics and sustainability to position PEFC as a relevant and influential actor in a fast-moving environment, where forest and resource management are key to addressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and social equity. I am passionate about fostering collaboration, moderation, and leadership development within PEFC and across the sector.
