About Michael Blight

As a teacher, I see it as my role to help develop each pupil as a student and as an individual. I believe it is important to get to know your pupils well and foster a relationship that ensures they feel their learning and development is important to you. I believe if you do not take pride in their learning you cannot expect your pupils to. I have taught across several year groups adapting my teaching style and approach to fully support the range of abilities that I was presented with. Within each year group, I taught a variety of abilities. Whilst in Year 5, I was responsible for the higher ability children in Mathematics and English whilst in Year 4, I used my EYFS experience to work with the lower ability Mathematics group. I enjoy the challenges that working with different groups of children present – to ensure they all make as much progress as they can. I found the EYFS experience was especially beneficial when working with Year 4 as I was able to bring a more simplified and game-based approach that ensured they began to make rapid progress. I have also displayed flexibility in covering classes in every group across the school, usually with little prior warning. I believe this is all part of working together with a great team work ethic and supporting colleagues.
