Background

About Michael Boah

I am a public health professional with a PhD in Epidemiology and Health Statistics as well as a Master of Public Health, currently serving as a Research Scientist and Cohort Manager in Rwanda. I lead the establishment of the Butaro Human Development and Demographic Surveillance System, an initiative that will generate high-quality data to inform public health decision-making in Rwanda and beyond. My background spans over a decade of applied research and public health practice in Ghana and Rwanda, with expertise in infectious diseases (including tuberculosis and HIV), maternal and child health, nutrition, and, more recently, healthy ageing and multimorbidity in older populations. I work across the research-to-policy spectrum, combining robust study design with stakeholder engagement to ensure findings are relevant and actionable. I bring strong skills in research leadership, project coordination, cohort and surveillance management, as well as qualitative and quantitative methodologies. My portfolio includes peer-reviewed publications, multisectoral collaborations, and experience working with ministries of health, academic institutions, and international partners. I’m particularly interested in forming evidence-based, interdisciplinary partnerships that address health disparities and strengthen health systems in resource-limited settings.
