About Michael Boland

Professor of Agricultural Economics at University of Minnesota where I have taught in the Mondale School of Law, Carlson School of Management, and College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences. My teaching has included various courses in agriculture (marketing, management) and organizations (cooperatives, mutuals). I currently teach an interdisciplinary course in food policy to graduate students in supply chain, MBA, agricultural and food sciences, natural resource sciences, public policy, and applied economics. I previously worked at Kansas State University for 10 years. Currently serve on Board of Directors for Select Sires, global leader in bovine genetics and dairy reproduction technology, and board advisor for UniGroup, household relocation and logistics whose brands include Mayflower, United, and UniGroup Logistics. A significant part of my outreach responsibilities includes board governance training to boards of directors of cooperatives including strategy, governance, accounting and finance, and leadership. My research has focused on the governance of food system and the role of producers and consumers in various supply chains. My work has taken me to more than 100 countries on various education, research, and training.
