About Michael Bruch

I'm an Environmental and Risk Engineer and Global Head of Risk Engineering Advisory Services in Allianz Commercial which is the center of expertise and global line of Allianz Group for insuring mid-sized, large enterprises and specialist risks. In the Emerging Risk area I cooperate with internal colleagues (e.g. Risk Managers, CRO, UW, Market Management), peers (e.g. Chief Risk Officer Forum - Emerging Risk Initiative) and external partners to identify, assess and mitigate emerging risks and trends. The following questions around emerging risks and trends keep inspiring me: How can we manage risks arising from climate change and promote resilience and the transition to a low-carbon economy and what is the role of insurers in that respect? What are the risks and benefits of new technologies, such as 3D printing, nanotechnology or Artificial Intelligence? What are the risks and opportunities of the next industrial revolution, Industrie 4.0 including use of big data and increasing interconnectivity of risks? How can we enable risktaking, support economic growth, encourage innovation and enhance the resilience of society and the economy? In 2014, I established the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Center of Competence for Allianz to fully integrate ESG factors into insurance risk assessments, underwriting and product development processes. The goal is to protect Allianz’ reputation, to develop customized insurance and service solutions to help clients managing the financial impact of ESG risks and to position Allianz as the leading provider of sustainable insurance and investments. As Global Head for ARC Liability /ESG I shaped the ESG strategy in P/C Business (Property and Casualty) of Allianz and steered the global Risk Consulting Liability team since 2018. The mission is to support Underwriting Liability, PI and Cyber Financial Lines, Liability Aviation and Claims teams with our risk engineering expertise, to optimize risk selection, to improve client’s risk management performance and to build sustainable customer relations and services. Since 2022, as Global Head of Risk Engineering Advisory Services, I am responsible, together with our more than 250 risk engineers worldwide, for developing internal and external technical advisory services to leverage growth opportunities in strategic, emerging risk and trend areas, protecting and enhancing the risk quality of our portfolio and being the preferred risk advisor to make our clients' risk management strategy fit for the future.
