About Michael Brunner

I teach and model cutting edge clinical practices in Behavioral Health and set high standards for operational efficiency. I am skilled at program development, leading and motivating culture change that embodies respect and growth, supervision and mentoring, and business operations. I am most engaged when learning about complex concepts and systems, translating them into practical strategies, and then taking steps or teaching others how to create change or improvements. For example, I created a neurodevelopmental model for understanding addiction and distilled this into practice strategies for treatment providers. Throughout my career as a psychologist I have positioned myself at the intersections of care delivery, organizational leadership, and teaching and mentoring others. I have practiced and led the delivery of treatment services to those with challenging behavioral health conditions including severe substance use disorders, psychological/developmental trauma, severe anxiety and mood disorders, sexual behavior problems, and serious mental illness. I have served patients of all ages but have especially well-honed skills for treating children, adolescents, young adults, and families. I have a deep knowledge base in medications to treat substance use and mental health problems and well-developed teaching and presentation skills. Ethical decision-making, prioritizing the needs of those I serve, compassion, and high standards of quality guide me in my work with people and organizations.
