About Michael C Zaplin

I am the Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations for Florida at Steward Health Care, the largest private hospital operator in the United States. With more than 10 years of experience in the healthcare industry, I hold an MD degree from Albany Medical College, an MBA and an MHA from Union College, and a residency in internal medicine and pediatrics from Virginia Commonwealth University. My core competencies include developing and implementing hospital management strategies that generate revenue, enhance patient satisfaction, and improve service efficiency and effectiveness; leading medical staff in improving processes to control infections, reduce risks, and increase safety; and leveraging AI and new technologies to optimize clinical outcomes and processes. I am also the lead physician advisor of Steward’s six hospitals in the Miami market, responsible for all escalations, throughput, and length of stay, as well as for all clinical denials throughout the revenue cycle. Some of my career highlights include reducing in-house mortality rate by 0.5%, decreasing length of stay and readmission rates across multiple hospitals, fostering robust relationships with medical staff and specialty groups, and managing and operating rental properties, demonstrating my entrepreneurial and financial acumen. As a leader, I strive to empower, support, and collaborate with my team and partners, as well as to stay abreast of the latest trends and innovations in the healthcare sector.
