About Michael Calabrese

I'm a self-taught software developer and current Computer Engineering student with a passion for systems-level programming, algorithms, and educational impact. My professional journey began in the electrical trades, where I worked as a journeyman industrial electrician and a quotations specialist on large-scale electrical infrastructure—but my curiosity for computing drove me to pivot. Today, I coach competitive programming students preparing for USACO and teach coding classes to kids and teens, helping them develop foundational skills in Python, JavaScript, and problem-solving. I’m especially interested in low-level development, including embedded systems, quantum computing (via Qiskit), and the intersection of hardware and software. My background gives me a strong hands-on mindset and a grounded understanding of how systems work—electrically and computationally. I’m excited by challenges that sit close to the metal and love helping others understand complex ideas through clear instruction and creative teaching. When I’m not studying or teaching, I explore projects that blend performance, architecture, and real-world utility. I aim to build tools that are both technically elegant and deeply human-centered.
