About Michael Caldera

Originally studied Microbiology and Biological Chemistry but I became fascinated to use computational tools, AI and big data, to solve various scientific questions in biology, chemistry, etc. During my PhD my research interests focused on applying concepts from network theory to gain insight into the complex machinery of interacting molecules that constitutes the basis of (patho-) physiological states and the translational aspect of converting these insights to novel bioinformatics tools for the analysis of molecular data. Since then, I joined Proxygen, where I have been involved in the pioneering field of "molecular glue hunting." My role integrates computational biology and cheminformatics, utilizing advanced modeling techniques and data analysis to discover and help design small molecules that promote targeted protein degradation. By leveraging cutting-edge tools in systems biology, network analysis, and machine learning, I aim to contribute to the development of therapies for a range of diseases, including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. Throughout my career, I have maintained a strong passion for interdisciplinary approaches, combining biology, chemistry, and computational science to address pressing challenges. I am particularly driven by the opportunity to translate computational insights into actionable strategies for therapeutic development, with a focus on collaborative efforts to advance cutting-edge research and innovation.
