About Michael Carr

Michael Carr is currently the principal engineer with Carr Consulting Engineers (formally Carr & Co. Civil which he founded 2004 and is also a lecturer in Civil Engineering at Atlantic Technological University. Michael qualified with a 2.1 honours BE degree in Civil Engineering from NUIG in 1985. He added an MSc in Offshore Structures in 1988 from Cranfield University. He became a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland in 1989 and a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1990. He was registered as a FEANI Eur Ing in 1990. In 2008 Michael was conferred as a Fellow of Engineers Ireland. Michael's early work experience was with Ambric Engineering Inc in Philadelphia from 1985/86 and 1988/92. After achieving his MSc in Offshore Structures he worked with John Brown & Constructers, in Paddington, London for one year 1987/88, where he gained experience in structural dynamics and computer modelling. Michael has over 35 years experience as a practicing Chartered Engineer and has a proven track record in delivering a high quality civil and structural engineering service to clients. His experience includes structural design of multi-storey buildings in structural steel and reinforced concrete, bridge design, civil works, heavy engineering, materials and geotechnical engineering. As a lecturer Michael is interested in assisting students to reach their full potential. He is a strong advocate of the achievement of high academic standards combined with top class technical skills required in the workplace today. Michael has research interests in structural and geotechnical engineering, civil engineering materials and offshore structures.
