About Michael Catlin

I am looking to bring my innovation experience and diverse skills to a company that is committed to the West Michigan area. Engineering and invention has been a passion since I was a child. Whether it was designing a heads up display for scuba diving, or converting a rubber raft into a sailboat, I have spent my life learning about and applying new ideas to the world around me. At work and at home I am constantly searching for what's new, diving into technologies, and quickly learning how those might apply to my field. For me, innovation isn't just for products but also for how we do work. In my current role I have integrated additive manufacturing and 3D scanning into our workflow to improve speed to market for our new innovations. I was also instrumental in writing our formal innovation process globally. My most recent area of focus has been integration of DC drive systems into mechanisms for automotive interiors. Prior areas of experience include- Decorative trim processes (IML, IMD, hot-foil)- Printing processes (Screen printing, Rotogravure)- Capacitive switching - Personal electronics Integration - Mechanisms - Electrochromic coatings - Injection Molding design - Catia - NX Although a mechanical engineer by training, I am comfortable and familiar with electronics systems and served as an electronics integration engineer in our electronics group for two years. I worked on new innovations as well as customer quotations. In my current role as a member of a small innovation group, I have been expected to manage budget, timing and deliverable for multiple projects. I have been responsible for research, invention, design, engineering, costing, intellectual property, validation, and promotion for my ideas. In addition, I have interfaced with our customer to support and present our new innovations. Unique qualifications include Scrummaster Certification and Innovation Management Certification (NewNorth Center) in Design Thinking.
