About Michael Chafe

In my twenty plus years in the health & safety profession, I have had the opportunity to collaborate many great leaders throughout Canada and the United States, in both the metals recycling and the pulp & paper sectors. This experience has afforded me the ability to gain additional perspective from likeminded professionals and various subject matter experts. In turn, I have successfully facilitated the implementation of various innovative solutions throughout my career, that have pushed the status quo in not only keeping the workplace safe but also positively impacting the bottom line while preserving the environment. I have a best-in-class mindset, and thus operate with the perspective that safety is not an independent objective or function, but rather an integrated aspect in everything we do. I have extensive experience developing health and safety management systems that can be practically applied within the workplace. I am a realist in that I understand that it takes a team to reshape an organization and share in every win, as I take great pride in the team's collective accomplishments. I believe in developing action plans to prioritize efforts and maintaining focus, while remaining flexible and agile to support business needs as they arise. As a member of the senior team my dedication extends beyond the realm of prevention and compensation, as I look to optimize every available opportunity to improve efficiencies, eliminate waste and non-value-added activities, and operationalize health and safety at the everyday level through enterprise risk management. Able to manage multiple work site improvements while respecting parameters of the overall project plan including timelines, milestones, budgets, and deliverables. I am an experienced COR auditor in both BC and AB, and a current member of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) Fraser Valley Executive Committee.
