I can think of no bigger challenge than analyzing and improving such a gigantic system. Fortunately for us, healthcare analytics can show us the way. The challenge remains, though: how to extract information from a system of vast complexity, with countless workflows, innumerable regulations, and diverse theories of best practice? This mountain of data is further obscured by the current state of the art — today’s information models have evolved from billing systems, making them ill-suited to the task. My goal is to innovate new application paradigms that extract, connect, and derive the information, rendering it consumable as business intelligence to improve healthcare delivery and research. I’m fascinated with automation, with its power to decrypt the opacity of even the most complex systems. I bring fifteen years of experience in healthcare IT to understand, define, and create data structures and reporting tools to make information accurate and accessible. My other passion is the design of right-sized solutions. Too often datawarehouses are overbuilt (and overpriced), underutilized, have long development times, and are expensive to revise because of their bulk. My goal is to use tools to automate data discovery and design to develop efficient, scalable information structures. I’m a solutions-minded, master toolsmith. When I’m not geeking out about metadata, data models, process improvement, and automation, I enjoy cooking, cross-country skiing, meditation, books, hiking, camping, soap making, being a dad, and big ideas.
