About Michael Cooper

I am a Trans-Tasman patent and trade marks attorney with Cooper IP, based in Melbourne, Australia, and service both Melbourne and the state of Tasmania. I worked for 10 years with one of Australia’s largest and most prestigious IP firms. My experience covers establishing and implementing IP protection strategies, obtaining, enforcing and advising on patents and registered design rights in diverse technical fields including mining hardware and equipment, energy recovery and storage, water treatment, automotive products, general manufacturing and machining, medical devices, sporting goods, apparel and general consumer products. In collaboration with my professional network, I can also provide guidance on industrial design and product development, commercialisation and licensing strategies. My career in the IP industry began in 2007 after working as a mechanical engineer, both locally and internationally, from 2002. As a mechanical engineer, I worked with a large gas turbine manufacturer and then in the Automotive industry. Working for both for a leading vehicle manufacturer and a parts supplier, I gained particular experience in the area of interior trim and plastics.
