About Michael Covington

Michael Covington was educated at the College of Charleston, where he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, with an emphasis on the history of industrialization. He currently serves as Managing Director of Speedwell Group LLC, a government relations firm in Columbia, South Carolina. He formerly served as Governmental Relations Officer for the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Prior to that, Mr. Covington was the South Carolina Highway Division Director of Carolinas AGC, a trade association, where he served for 13 years as Chief Lobbyist for the commercial and industrial construction industry in the state. Prior to that, he worked for ten years under now Congressman James Clyburn as a Community Relations Consultant at the State Human Affairs Commission. He is a former City Councilman and Mayor Pro Tempore of the Town of Irmo, a former member of the Columbia Area Transportation Study Committee (COATS), and a past President of the South Carolina Society of Association Executives. He has two daughters, a son-in-law and two granddaughters. He lives in Kershaw County with his wife Angela.
