About Michael Crisp

I love all forms of engineering that have a degree of subjectivity and critical thinking, as this allows maximum flexibility to find the best solution. This motivation has led me to focus in geotechnical engineering, however I have a wide range of multi-disciplinary skills (both soft and technical) that allow me to excel in other areas. One of my more unique traits is my combination of civil engineering and digital engineering expertise. I have several years of extensive experience in computer programming, data science, and various FEM packages. This knowledge effectively means that I can use computers to solve problems that are not typically in the scope of traditional engineers. This includes streamlining processes through automation, as well as finding designs that are optimised to a higher degree than what was previously possible.Speaking more broadly, I have an enormous aptitude for getting things done, and solving many kinds of problems including those never seen before. I can do this individually as demonstrated by my PhD, which involves multi-disciplinary problem solving and innovation. I can also do this in teams, as demonstrated by my multiple leadership roles. If the current problem requires a skill that I don't have, I will quickly and eagerly pick up that skill - a trait I value greatly.Finally, I have spent a great deal of time developing the skill of effective communication, whether it be 100+ page reports, succinct documents, team meetings, and presentations to name a few mediums. I have gained a reputation for delivering presentations that are memorable, engaging and persuasive. I truly believe that communication is at the heart of everything engineers do, so it needs to be done well.
