About Michael Dowlan

With a certification in nonprofit management by UMASS I Global (December 2023), and currently enrolled at the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance to earn a national certification in nonprofit management (April 2025), Michael is a well-prepared leader in the nonprofit space. Since 2017, Michael has worked exclusively with nonprofits as a Fellow at the Encore organization and Consulting Partner at Social Venture Partners in Los Angeles and San Diego. Prior to that, he held executive-level positions for over 25 years at two Fortune 100 companies, a marketing agency, and a start-up financial services company. Michael is an innovative and results-driven leader with a proven record of leveraging and integrating tailored strategic planning processes, marketing and market research, communications, operations, finance and budgeting, human resources, product innovation, and communications at for-profit and nonprofit organizations. As a Partner Consultant at Social Venture Partners in San Diego, Michael applies his extensive and diverse experience and unique skills by leading teams of consultants who work with local nonprofits to grow their capacity and impact. Michael is known for developing highly collaborative and effective partnerships with C-Suite, multi-level, and cross-functional staff, and nonprofit CEOs and Executive Directors. Graduating with a B.A. in music performance and education and a minor in ethnomusicology from the UCLA School of Music, Michael's postgraduate studies include a two-year program in business and banking at the University of Virginia.
