I have 25 years of experience in natural resource management in Montana. That time includes ten years as a Land Steward/GIS Coordinator for the Montana Land Reliance, a non-profit conservation land trust, and 15 years with the Montana Dept. of Natural Resources and Conservation in water resources planning, project management, and drought monitoring. My experience in cartography and visual arts (photography) has driven more recent work in data visualization, specifically as it relates to meteorological and hydrological data associated with drought monitoring. In my role as Montana's drought monitoring coordinator, I provide regular briefings, interviews and make presentations on current water supply and the risks of water scarcity for the press, agency executives, the Montana Legislature, and the public. My experience as a writer and editor has resulted in collaborations on books, reports and journal articles. I served as the lead author for the Montana State Water Plan, and more recently, the NOAA report Flash Drought - Lessons Learned from the 2017 Drought.
