About Michael Doyle
Mike Doyle received his BS degree from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN and his Ph.D. degree from Iowa State University. Following a postdoctoral engagement at the University of Illinois at Chicago, he joined the faculty at Hope College in 1968 and was appointed the first Kenneth Herrick Professor in 1982. In 1984, he moved to Trinity University in San Antonio, TX as the Dr. D. R. Semmes Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, and in 1997 he came to Tucson, AZ as Vice President, then President, of Research Corporation and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Arizona. He moved to the University of Maryland in 2003. After 10 years as Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and nearly 12 years overall, he accepted appointment at the University of Texas at San Antonio and moved there in 2015. Noted for his contributions to research and education, he has been the recipient of numerous awards and written, coauthored, or coedited eleven books, including Basic Organic Stereochemistry, 25 book chapters, and is the co-author of more than 400 journal publications. More than 160 undergraduate students are coauthors of his publications. Specialties: Nitrosyl Chemistry of Hemoproteins, including mechanism of nitrite oxidations (1980-1991); Selective Catalysts for Metal Carbene Transformations (1980-present); Highly Enantioselective Dirhodium(II) Catalysts (1990-present); Macrocyclization via Metal Carbene Intermediates (1995-present); Enantioselective Lewis Acid Catalyzed Reactions Catalytic Oxidations (2004-present); Organometallic Compounds (2007-present); Catalytic EnantioselectiveCycloaddition Reactions (2011-present), Catalytic Free Radical Addition Reactions (2019-present); Heterocycle Syntheses (2020-present).
