About Michael Duplessis

I am an educator. One of the greatest joys I have is receiving letters from former students telling me that their college biology class is much easier, or that they changed their major to medicine or biomedical engineering, because of my AP Biology class. I know that test results for students are important, but I get especially excited to know that my instruction helped students with their future scientific endeavors. This thrill is even more potent for me if that student had no previous interest in science before taking my class. I LOVE my content area, and am humbled when I heat that I have helped students discover their own love of science! While I have always loved science, it was not always my plan to be a science teacher. During my undergraduate work I had the opportunity to work with families in an educational setting. I loved seeing the look of wonder on their faces as we talked about the living world. That helped me to decide that teaching should be a part of my life. Since then, I have not looked back, even after 18 years of teaching in high schools. I would love to be on the cutting edge of the educational landscape, ushering in the newest ways to help prepare our students for their own futures. Specifically, I envision a future where students learn science differently than they do today. All strands of science really work together with each other, as well as with math, engineering, and technology. I want to help change science education so that students blend all aspects of science, math, and technology together and are equipped for whatever the future educational and career landscape holds.
