About Michael Eggleston

Currently seeking exciting new roles in computer vision and data science to leverage my experience and interests in image processing, optics, and computing. I joined the Computer Vision and Remote Sensing group at ARA, after successfully defending my dissertation at Duke University in 2021. While at ARA I was privileged to work on automated 3D model generation using classical and machine learned computer vision techniques from satellite imagery and other data streams. At Duke I was involved in high energy physics research conducted at the ATLAS detector, one of several detectors around the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. My research was focused on searching for Vector-Like Quarks that could offer a solution to the Hierarchy problem. In the first two years I was involved in optics research with the Quantum Electronics Lab group, with a focus on interferometry in the single photon regime. In 2013 I graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a B.S. in physics, and supplemental minor in mathematics. During my time at RIT I was involved in research concerning spiral phase plates and optical resonators. The projects I contributed to cultivated strong analytical problem solving skills, and increased my breadth of knowledge in programming. Furthermore I collaborated in the design and implementation of a custom ray tracing simulation. Between graduating from RIT and beginning my studies at Duke, I became involved in a self-motivated application building project with Android SDK. The ultimate goal was to immerse myself in the growing field of mobile applications, and also develop an app for the benefit of scientific measurements in a field or lab environment. I have a passion to contribute to meaningful and useful technologies with varied applications, as I have a broad spectrum of interests and hobbies.
