About Michael Elvidge

Michael has ten years of consulting archaeology experience and is currently employed by Cabin Resource Management and enrolled at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies program. He is a Registered Professional Consulting Archaeologist (RPCA) and is an experienced Permit Holder and Project Manager in the Interior Plateau and the Sub-Boreal Forest cultural areas. Michael has conducted archaeological studies throughout the Fraser, Kootenay, Thompson-Okanagan, northern Northwest Coast, Cariboo-Chilcotin, and Northern regions of British Columbia and in northwestern Alberta, but primarily works with syilx and Secwepemc communities. Michael has a strong interest in decolonizing archaeological processes in commercial archaeology and is an advocate for the welfare of workers within the heritage sector. He is a proficient technical report writer and effective communicator with First Nations communities, regulatory agencies, and industry clients. Currently, Michael is working under the supervision of Dr. Neha Gupta and with the Westbank First Nation Archaeology Office to develop digital tools to critically assess archaeological research within Westbank’s area of responsibility. Michael’s particular interests are in the archaeology of the Southern Interior, decolonial archaeological method and theory, Digital Archaeology, Indigenous archaeology and data governance, remote sensing and geophysics, geoarchaeology, lithic technology, geochemistry, and landscape archaeology.
