About Michael Espinoza

Michael Espinoza is a native Houstonian, graduating from Milby High School and living and working in Houston’s East End for most of his life. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the field of project & program management, non-profit management, community and political engagement, and fundraising. Mike is guided by a passion for pursuing economic equity, having been the first in his family to attend college and earning a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA in 2002. Mike returned to Texas, where he taught high school at Raul Yzaguirre School for Success in Southeast Houston. In 2005, Michael was named a Center for Mexican American Studies Fellow at the University of Houston, where he completed coursework to earn a Master’s Degree in Sociology. Since 2006, Mike has worked & consulted on a wide range of projects and organizations focused on achieving economic equity and mobility, including the Houston Justice for Janitors Campaign, Stand for Children, Mi Familia Vota, Leadership for Educational Equity, Fight for $15 Campaign, and The Children’s Movement of Fresno. Mike has also managed political campaigns throughout the South and Western US. After spending 8 years in Fresno California, Mike has returned to Houston. Mike is thrilled to join the Department of Economic Equity and Opportunity, and looks forward to serving the people of Harris County.
