About Michael Fernandes

Michael Fernandes is an Army veteran and former professional MMA fighter who received a career ending injury which put him on his full time path to real estate. He began his real estate career 17 years ago doing real estate finance and spec homes. After a couple years in the business Michael moved to commercial finance working for a Commercial Real Estate Investment Co. in NYC. He worked his way up the ladder to the VP position and raised $40 million dollars for the company to lend out as well as he closed hundreds of millions of dollars in loan amount while with the company. In 2008 during the crash Michael's position was no longer needed as the company became more a property management company due to all the loans and buildings it had to recall. After losing his job Michael lost everything, his savings, his income, his home and was left to rebuild from zero. After the crash Michael began to assess the market and looked for a niche and a need within the market space. He began rehabbing and renting single family homes which lasted a couple years and allowed him to begin rebuilding his life. During a meeting with a property locator who found numerous properties for Michael asked if he had any houses available to rent for his special needs clients that he worked with for his main job, a caseworker. This is where it all began for Michael, his introduction into special needs housing. Without there being really anyone familiar with this type of housing strategy Michael was left to figure it out on his own and with the income being so much higher than market rents Michael was all to willing to take the time to learn while he earned. Fast forward 10 years Michael has housed hundreds of special needs clients and now has numerous single family, multi family and apartment buildings throughout 9 counties in NY and several more in FL. Since starting his special needs housing Michael has since added to his resume and company being a provider of behavioral health, medical and diagnostic services so he can offer a full line of services for his tenants/clients providing them with the best possibility of becoming productive members of society thru a strong foundation built off good clean safe and affordable housing in conjunction with life skills and counseling services combined with medical and diagnostic services to be sure they are healthy and can enjoy and flourish in the new life opportunity Michael's clients/tenants now have.
