About Michael Fitzpatrick

I am a consultant gastroenterologist and researcher working at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. My clinical expertise focuses on coeliac disease and other immune-related small bowel conditions, complex clinical nutrition and intestinal failure, and intestinal transplantation. I am also experienced in managing general gastroenterology conditions including IBS, reflux, dyspepsia, microscopic colitis, bile acid malabsorption, SIBO, and constipation. I also run a research group in the Translational Gastroenterology and Liver Unit at the University of Oxford. My research interests focus on gut immunology and disease, with a particular focus on coeliac disease and intestinal transplantation. I am particularly interested in the unconventional rebellious T cells that break the 'rules' of adaptive immunology: MAIT cells, γδ T cells & tissue resident populations.
