About Michael Freire

I am a commercially-oriented business leader and consultant with 30+ years of global HR, reward and organization performance design and delivery experience. I help firms realize their business strategies by working with them to build engagement, grow and reward their talent, and improve their effectiveness. How HR can optimally support the business in an integrated way through its reward, talent, L&D, employee & labor relations, and engagement strategies is always top of mind. I believe that the first step in good design is to take stock of where you are at, using the best-suited assessment tools. Next comes design work that involves stakeholders, is unfussy and focused, and has a cost-effective ROI. When delivering, I advise my clients on change management and how to build processes and tools with end-users in mind. In my experience, the very best results come from collaborating and harnessing your team’s talents - at all levels of the organization. Before consulting, I held both broad HR and reward design and delivery head roles. I have been a leader at the corporate, region, country and plant levels. I have worked with companies big and small, public and private, multinational and domestic, across several industries. I have been on both sides of the M&A equation. My global mindset comes from a lifetime of living and working in Europe, Latin America and across North America. I grew up in a multicultural home and am trilingual, speaking English, Spanish and Lithuanian. I often get asked how my Latin American Studies degrees prepped me for the work I do. The answer is simple. I apply the same broad inter-disciplinary curiosity and critical thinking. I look for causal relationships and put evidence into context. This complements the discipline of my studies in Sociology and Industrial Relations and my many years in-house as a business leader.
