About Michael Garvey
Based in the Asia-Pacific region for the past 37 years, I have lived in Japan twice, in China twice, in Hong Kong twice and in Taiwan once. I am currently based in Malaysia. I have spent time working in all the major Asia-Pacific markets. When I came to the region in 1983, I was working on securing Foreign Direct Investment for Ireland (working with IDA Ireland). In 1996 I joined Forbairt, working on Technology links between Ireland and Asia and I then joined Enterprise Ireland when it was formed in 1998 Between 1998 and 2013 I assisted Irish companies with the growth and development of their their exports to the Asia-Pacific region (working with Enterprise Ireland). During that time I managed the Asia Pacific Region for 6 years and I was stationed in Tokyo, Beijing Hong Kong, Shanghai and then Malaysia. I resigned from Enterprise Ireland in 2013 and then I took the position of Director, Asia-Pacific region for Invest Northern Ireland. I finished my contract with Invest NI at the end of April 2016 and am now a freelance Consultant, working for both companies and for Government Agencies as they develop their business, primarily in the Asia-Pacific Markets.
