About Michael Gates

I'm a versatile and creative professional with a very broad range of media skills and the ability to adapt to whatever project comes my way. At heart, I'm a storyteller, but I also love solving problems and generating solutions to new problems, creative or technical. My storytelling passions have led me to write film reviews, news stories, and special interest stories (The Rocky Ford Daily Gazette), as well as screenplays and other creative work. I've been shooting and editing videos of all types for over 20 years, from documentaries and testimonials to my first feature film (Voyage of the Chimera), which I self-distributed in 2021. This microbudget effort built on my experience in management (Digital Media Communications) and required me to work in all areas of the production: co-writer, director, co-producer, casting director, cinematographer, editor, VFX artist, sound designer, QA, encoding and delivery, subtitle generation and editing, DVD/Blu-ray authoring, distribution, and marketing. I currently serve as Tech Lead/Senior Production Specialist for Broadnet, which has extended my skills into the realm of live webcasting, while still shooting, editing, and writing in my spare time. I've been working remotely for the past 9 years - long before COVID-19 reared its head, and while I miss being in a traditional "workspace," I have come to love being able to collaborate at a distance with anyone, any time.
