About Michael Gates

I am a community banker who lives and works in Greenville, SC. I have recently transitioned to Self-Help Credit Union where our mission is creating and protecting ownership and economic opportunity for all. We do this by providing responsible financial services, lending to small business and nonprofits, developing real estate and promoting fair financial practices. While our work benefits communities of all kinds, our focus is on those who may be underserved by conventional lenders, including people of color, women and rural residents and low-wealth families and communities. I enjoy spending my free time with my family and friends. I am an avid motorcycle rider and enjoys touring the many highways and bi ways of America where my wife and I like to check out local wineries, craft brew houses, local and national motorcycle events, as well as the many small towns and local haunts along the way. I also enjoy golf and plays as often as I can.
