About Michael Gibbons

I currently work as a Senior Chemical Engineer at the Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC). This role focuses on Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), a chemical processing technology to deposit solid materials from the gas phase. In this critical role I commissioned a First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) CVD furnace for depositing silicon carbide (SiC) on additively manufactured composites. My favorite project (so far) was creating a Plotly+Dash data analytics dashboard for visualizing and assessing the performance of processing run results. Before working at USNC, I worked at Micron Technology as a process safety engineer evaluating the manufacturing environment to minimize the risk to employees, the community, and plant assets. This involves completing job hazard analysis, reports, HAZOPs, and helping improve designs to minimize safety risks. Before moving into the process safety role I worked at Micron as an environmental abatement engineer, assuring that flammable and toxic processing gases were properly treated before being released to the atmosphere. That involved troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment, reducing costs while maintaining safe treatment, and ensuring maximum HVM utilization. In addition to my professional life, I enjoy the outdoors while backpacking, rock climbing, and skiing. I have also worked as an intern in the Aerospace and Defense industry and as a Research Assistant in Industrial Combustion and Gasification.
